Micah Garen’s Faces of the Facebook Revolution photo essay was recently awarded 2nd place in the Editorial: War/Conflict category of the 2011 International Photography Awards. Initially published by VanityFair.com, the series features injured protesters in Tahrir Square in February, 2011.

A writer, photographer and documentary filmmaker, Garen’s work has been featured in the New York TimesNewsweek, the Associated Press, and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 911 to name a few. His Kickstarter collaboration with Marie-Helene Carleton, If: A Documentary Film of the Egyptian Revolution raised nearly $18k to share the coming-of-age stories of four young women in Egypt as set against the backdrop of The Arab Spring.
